Motrin Stevens Johnson Syndrome
Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) is a dangerous, rare, and serious disorder in which the skin and mucous membranes react to a medication or infection. Often, Stevens Johnson syndrome starts with flu-like symptoms, followed by a painful rash that spreads and blisters, eventually causing the top layer of skin to die and shed. SJS is an emergency medical condition that usually requires hospitalization.
Ibuprofen including the brand name Motrin and other NSAIDs have recently been recognized by the scientific community to be one of the leading causes of SJS. Ibuprofen can cause serious skin adverse events such as exfoliative dermatitis. These serious events may occur without warning.
Children’s Motrin
In children, medication can play a big part in causing SJS. Medication for children associated with Stevens Johnson Syndrome include ibuprofen based medications such as Advil and children’s Motrin
